I've always had a love of the ocean and wildlife that lives within. Whales represent the elders of the sea, the caretakers of the underwater world. Watching them migrate each year gives me great pleasure and I've spent hours sitting on the ocean watching them breach and play.
After watching the Australian Customs footage, I was heartbroken to see such cruel treatment of such peaceful creatures.
To use bullets that shatter upon entry to kill is a war crime. Why do we allow this practice when it's not allowed anywhere else and on peaceful animals that are protected?
I was shocked that Australian Customs had such footage and have never done anything about the horrible footage.
I starting supporting Sea Shepherd over 10 years ago, giving monthly donations via direct debit after seeing and hearing about them on the news. I was shocked then that our own Government wasn't doing anything to stop the slaughter of whales and wanted to get involved in helping.
I would really like to see the Australian Customs vessel in the Southern Ocean defending our whale sanctuary. It has been proven in court the Japanese are whaling purely for profit and still our Government ignores them breaking the law.
Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull, my representative in the Australian Parliament, should defend the indefensible by standing up and calling the Japanese Government out as they are supporting the killings by using their military technology to track Sea Shepherd’s vessels that went down to stop them last year.
The whaling industry in Japan is full of corruption. Whales belong to the world and are in real danger because of it. Our Prime Minister should be doing more!
